One of the easiest repairs on the Roadrunner is replacing the battery. The system is a slide-in/slide-out design secured by a key lock.
-
Turn off your scooter.
-
Unlock the battery with your key.
-
Slide the old battery out.
-
Slide the new battery in until it locks into place.
That’s it! Your scooter is ready to ride again.
2. General Battery-Related Issues
Since the Roadrunner does not have a built-in voltmeter, it can be tricky to know if the battery is the problem. Here are some symptoms you might notice:
-
The LCD shows the battery draining quickly, even though the scooter still rides normally.
-
The LCD shows a full charge, but the scooter powers down suddenly.
These issues can involve not just the battery, but also the charger, battery mount, or controller. Here’s how to check them:
Step 1: Check the Charger
-
Make sure the charger light changes from red (charging) to green (fully charged).
-
Inspect the battery’s charging port for visible damage.
Step 2: Inspect the Battery Mount
The mount is what locks the battery in and connects it to the scooter.
-
Look at the red male connector at the top of the mount for any damage.
-
Check the wiring that runs into the seat (connecting to the controller) for pinches, cuts, or wear.
Step 3: Check the Controllers
It’s less common for the controllers to cause battery issues, but it can happen.
-
Look for damaged wires or water exposure.
-
If there are no obvious symptoms, the controllers are usually fine.
Step 4: Consider the Battery
If the charger, mount, and controllers all check out, the battery may need inspection.
-
Unless it’s visibly damaged (dented, swollen, or punctured), we’ll need you to send it back to our technicians for testing.
-
Once inspected, we can confirm if the battery is faulty and proceed with a replacement if necessary.
